Shane Turpin Gets World Superbike Wild Card Entry Hometown favorite to race at Miller Motorsports Park aboard a Boulder Motor Sports-prepared Ducati 1198R

Boulder, Colorado, April 10, 2012 – Shane Turpin, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, has been accepted to compete in the FIM Superbike World Championship USA round at Miller Motorsports Park, scheduled for May 26-28, 2012. For the Memorial Day weekend event, Turpin will be competing at his home circuit and taking to the world stage on a Boulder Motor Sports-prepared Ducati 1198R.

Turpin, who has been racing competitively since the 1990s, is a regular competitor in the Utah Sport Bike Association’s Masters of the Mountains series at Miller Motorsports Park, and holds multiple No. 1 plates in that series as well as the Colorado-based MRA race series. He has also competed in AMA Pro Road Racing with top-10 finishes in both the Superbike and Supersport classes. In addition to his vast racing experience, Turpin is also a riding instructor for the Yamaha Champions Riding School based at Miller Motorsports Park, which he credits for fine-tuning his riding technique.

“I am extremely excited and honored to have been accepted as a Wild Card entry in the FIM Superbike World Championship event at Miller Motorsports Park,” says Turpin. “ It’s my home track, where I’ve completed countless laps and have great track knowledge. I’ve been racing with the Boulder Motor Sports team for three years now, and I feel at home with the entire group. They’re a great team who continue to provide me with the expertise and equipment to ride my best. We began our testing back in late February and continue to make improvements in preparation for the Memorial Day event. I look forward to representing our sponsors, families, friends and my country.”

“We are very excited and proud that Shane has been accepted as a Wild Card for the USA Round of the Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park,” said Boulder Motor Sports’ Brian Sharp. “The team is working very hard to prepare for the race, and we are looking forward to competing in a world-class event like the Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park.”

Boulder Motor Sports’ Shane Turpin Wraps up the MRA #1 Plate at PPIR

Boulder, Colorado, September 19th, 2011 - Boulder Motor Sports rider Shane “Tornado” Turpin wrapped up the #1 plate on the teams Ducati 1198R with a win in the premier “Race of the Rockies” Superbike class at Pikes Peak International Raceway during the final round of the 2011 MRA season.

The weekend started off with mixed weather conditions for Fridays practice, but quickly turned sunny with temps in the mid-70’s for Saturday and Sunday’s racing. During Saturday’s practice sessions the team made some minor changes to the bike, based off of rider feedback and verifying the data. By Sunday, the track temps had increased by 20 degrees, which altered the team’s setup slightly, but still, put them at the front of the time sheets. During qualifying Turpin was able to put together a few good laps that positioned him 2nd on the grid just two tenth’s of Pole sitter Dalton Dimick on his BMW. As the lights went out, Dimick jumped out to an early lead on his BMW with Turpin close in pursuit. On lap four Turpin was able to out brake Dimick going into turn 3 to take the lead. By half race distance Turpin and Dimick were separated by only two tenth’s looking to setup a great battle to the end. Unfortunately, on lap 16 Dimick was forced to retire with bike troubles, thus easily handing the win to Turpin and the Boulder Motor Sports Team.

Shane Turpin – “WOW, what can I say? This season has been absolutely perfect and today we managed to bring home the #1 plate. It’s a true testament to my Boulder Motor Sports team; they put together a great package all season, which enabled us to put a Ducati at the top of the championship, something that has never been accomplished since the MRA started racing in 1973. Today’s race was a real thrill, having the chance to race bar to bar with Dalton on his BMW was awesome. With the slightly higher temperatures today, we made a few small changes to get the bike to drive off the corner better, coupled with the Michelin tires and Nemesis Traction Control system, we managed to pull off another win. As I’ve said all year, I’d like to thank my team, our sponsors and the entire MRA officials for an outstanding 2011 season.”

In addition to the #1 plate in the Race of the Rockies, the team also brought home championships in Open Superbike, Middleweight Superbike and Heavyweight Superbike.

Boulder Motor Sports’ Shane Turpin Wins MRA Race of The Rockies at HPR

Boulder, Colorado, August 29th, 2011 - Boulder Motor Sports rider Shane “Tornado” Turpin showcased the teams Ducati 1198R in the premier “Race of the Rockies” Superbike class at High Plains Raceway Raceway during the sixth round of the 2011 MRA season.

After reviewing data from round five at HPR, the team rolled the Ducati 1198R out of the trailer with a good setup for Friday’s practice day only having to make a few minor adjustments. During qualifying Turpin was able to put together a few good laps that positioned him on pole for the afternoon’s race. As the lights went out, Colter Dimick jumped out to an early lead on his Yamaha from the second row with Turpin close in pursuit. Coming out of turn 3 onto the long back straight Turpin managed to get a great drive on his Ducati 1198R and grab the lead away from Dimick. By lap two Turpin lead Doug Kahl and Dan Turner on their Suzuki GSXR1000’s. At the halfway point Turpin was able to run a consistent pace and bring home the teams fifth win in the premier “Race of the Rockies” class.

Shane Turpin – “Today was a great race, we managed to put the Boulder Motor Sports Ducati on pole and then capitalize on that momentum during the race to extend our points lead. With the high temperatures today, the Nemesis traction control system, coupled with the Michelin tires enabled me to run a consistent comfortable pace. My crew and I spent the entire weekend reviewing data, which enabled us to pinpoint sections of the track in which I could gain time. I’d like to thank my team, our sponsors and the entire MRA officials, as well as give a big congratulations to Dan Turner and his crew for getting Dan back on the grid after his qualifying crash.”

In addition to the first place finish in Race of the Rockies, the team also placed first in Middleweight Superbike, Open Superbike and second in Heavyweight Superbike.

The Boulder Motor Sports team will be back in action on September 18th for Round 7 of the MRA’s 2011 season at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colorado.

Turpin Wins MRA Race of The Rockies at Pueblo Motorsports Park

Boulder, Colorado, July 12th , 2011 - Boulder Motor Sports rider Shane “Tornado” Turpin once again showcased the teams Ducati 1198R in the premier “Race of the Rockies” Superbike class at Pueblo Motorsports Park during the fourth round of the 2011 MRA season.

The team received a new electronics package from Competition Systems UK just in time for the weekend’s event. With a few minor adjustments and support from Mick Boasman from Competition Systems, Turpin managed to qualify on Pole just a few tenths in front of Dan Turner on his Suzuki GSXR1000. As the race began, Turpin was able to pull the holeshot and lead into the fast, right-hand, turn one with Dan Turner on his GSXR1000 in close pursuit. The early stage of the race saw Turner in close proximity to Turpin, just a few tenths off in second place. By half race distance, Turpin was able to extend his lead by a few seconds and bring home the win for the Boulder Motor Sports Team.

Shane Turpin – “ After nearly a month off, I was really looking forward to getting back on the Ducati, especially knowing the team had a new electronics package and the support from Competition Systems, Mick Boasman. We had some new suspension settings to try as well, which the team worked hard to ensure we maximized our practice time to find a great setting for the bumpy Pueblo circuit. During the race the track temperature was quite high, but coupled with the Michelin tires and the Nemesis Traction Control System, we managed to put the power down and come away with our fourth win of the year. I’d like to give a big thanks to my team, Mick Boasman, our sponsors and the entire MRA officials, especially the corner workers who endured a long weekend under mixed weather conditions.”

In addition to the first place finish in Race of the Rockies, the team also placed first in Heavy Weight Superbike, first in Open Superbike and first in Middleweight Superbike.

The Boulder Motor Sports team will be back in action on July 30th for Round 5 of the MRA’s 2011 season at High Plains Raceway in Byers, Colorado.
